Answer

How do I find out when an inmate will be released?

Short answer: Use the official inmate search for the state where the person is held. Most show a projected release date or parole eligibility date. Only the prison system can calculate or correct the date.

Steps

  1. Find out which system holds the person: county jail, state prison or federal prison.
  2. For federal prison, use the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator.[1]
  3. For state prison, use that state's official search (list below).
  4. Look for "projected release," "parole eligibility," "tentative release" or "discharge" dates.
  5. If a date looks wrong, contact the facility records office. See how to fix a wrong release date.

FAQ

Why does the date keep changing?

Dates change when credits are awarded or taken away, when a new sentence is added, or when records are corrected.

Does OutSooner store my searches?

No. We never store searches.
