Hawaii good time and sentence credit rules

Hawai'i has no good time or earned credits. People serve day-for-day up to the maximum term, and only the Hawai'i Paroling Authority can change time served.[1]

Sources last checked Oct 16, 2026, 8:26 AM MT. This explains current law. It does not calculate anyone's date.

Credit types and rates

  • No "good time" credits for behavior and no "earned credits" for programs.[1]
  • Statutory fixed minimums apply in two situations: cases involving firearms and repeat-offense cases.[1]

Exclusions and limits

  • Not applicable, since there are no credits to exclude anyone from.[1]

Parole eligibility vs. discharge

  • Judges impose the maximum term. The Hawai'i Paroling Authority sets the minimum term and decides parole.[1]

How to find a release date

  1. Search the official Hawaii VINELink offender search by name or ID number.
  2. Look for the projected release, parole eligibility, or discharge date. The DOC record already includes credits it has awarded.
  3. For questions, contact the facility records office. Only DOC can correct a date.
