Maryland good time and sentence credit rules
Maryland gives a good conduct deduction of 10 days per calendar month. It is 5 days for terms that include a crime of violence or certain drug-distribution crimes.[1] Other diminution credits are in §§3-705 to 3-707.

Credit types and rates
- The good conduct deduction is calculated in advance, from the first day of commitment to the last day of the term.[1]
- 10 days per calendar month, prorated for partial months.[1]
- 5 days per month if the term includes a crime of violence (Crim. Law §14-101) or a drug manufacturing/distribution offense under Crim. Law §5-612 or §5-613.[1]
Exclusions and limits
- No deduction for periods without sentence credit, such as a stayed sentence or time out of custody because of escape.[1]
Parole eligibility vs. discharge
- Diminution credits move up the mandatory supervision release date. Parole eligibility is set separately and decided by the Maryland Parole Commission. See our Maryland page for the Second Look Act.
How to find a release date
- Search the official Maryland DPSCS Inmate Locator by name or ID number.
- Look for the projected release, parole eligibility, or discharge date. The DOC record already includes credits it has awarded.
- For questions, contact the facility records office. Only DOC can correct a date.
