OutSooner

Frequently asked questions

About OutSooner

Is OutSooner affiliated with any government agency?

No. OutSooner is independent and not affiliated with any court, prison system, or government agency.

Is this legal advice?

No. Everything here is general information and estimates. Talk to a licensed attorney about a specific case.

How accurate are the estimates?

They are rough estimates from public data and the text of each law. Real dates depend on conduct, programs, credits lost or restored, and decisions by corrections staff and courts.

Where does the lookup data come from?

Official public data files published by each state's corrections department (Nevada daily, Oklahoma quarterly, Texas monthly).

Do you store my searches?

No. We do not save what you search for or tie searches to you.

Can I have a record removed?

Yes. Use the removal request form and we will review it promptly.

Why don't search engines show inmate pages?

We tell search engines not to index individual records to protect people's privacy.

Oklahoma

When does Oklahoma SB 1213 take effect?

November 1, 2026.

How many credits can someone earn under SB 1213?

Up to 45 credits a month in Class 3 and 60 in Class 4 for people never convicted of an offense listed in 57 O.S. §138(E). Others stay at 33 and 44. Class levels are set by a facility adjustment review committee.

Does it apply to people already in prison?

The law changes the monthly rates going forward from November 1, 2026. The Department of Corrections applies credits monthly, so people already serving sentences would earn the new rates from that date if they qualify.

Who is excluded?

People serving life sentences earn no deductions, and anyone ever convicted of a §138(E)-listed offense keeps the lower 33/44 rates. 85% offenses are still limited by 21 O.S. §13.1.

Is "prior felony" the same as a §138(E) offense?

No. The lower rate is tied to the specific offenses listed in §138(E), not to any prior felony.

Nevada

When does Nevada SB 413 take effect?

It is currently scheduled for July 1, 2027, after two delays (AB 542 in 2025 and AB 4 in the November 2025 special session).

What does the 35% credit mean?

An eligible person who follows their assigned programming can earn credit equal to 35% of their minimum and maximum terms, which can move parole eligibility and expiration dates earlier.

Who is not eligible?

People convicted of violent crimes, sex offenses, certain DUIs, and Category A or B felonies.

Can someone sentenced before 2027 use it?

People sentenced for earlier crimes can choose (elect) the new method. AB 542 requires NDOC to give a written projection before they elect.

Could it be delayed again?

Yes. The Legislature meets in February 2027, before the start date.

Colorado

How much extra earned time does SB26-159 give?

Two more days a month (12 to 14, or 10 to 12), plus up to 150 days for behavioral-health milestones.

Who is excluded?

People serving sentences for violent offenses.

Can I look up someone in Colorado?

Colorado does not publish a usable bulk data file, so use the manual calculator with the dates from CDOC paperwork.

Virginia

When does Virginia HB 361 take effect?

July 1, 2028.

How much could pretrial time be worth?

Up to 4.5 days per 30 days for ESC Level 1 and up to 15 days per 30 for Level 2, depending on conduct and programs.

Texas

Is there a new good time law in Texas?

Not currently. We are watching the January 2027 session.

Where does the Texas lookup data come from?

The TDCJ High Value Dataset on data.texas.gov, updated monthly.

Florida

Can Florida inmates get out early with gain time?

Gain time can reduce a sentence, but most people must serve at least 85%.

Maryland

Who qualifies for Maryland's Second Look Act?

People who were 18 to 24 at the time of the offense and have served at least 20 years.

Is release automatic?

No. A judge reviews the petition and decides.

New York

Has the New York Earned Time Act passed?

No, it is pending.

Illinois

Can Illinois prisoners get a sentence review?

Not under these bills yet; they are pending.
