OutSooner
Answer

What do I do if a release date looks wrong?

Short answer: Start with the facility records office. Ask for a time computation or sentence calculation. If the problem is jail credit or the judgment, the court must fix it. A lawyer or legal aid group can help.

Steps

  1. Gather papers: the judgment, any amended judgments, and the DOC record or time sheet. Our time sheet decoder explains common terms.
  2. Ask in writing: your loved one can send a request to the records office asking how the date was calculated.
  3. Use the grievance process if the records office does not answer.
  4. Go to court for jail credit or judgment errors. Ask the defense attorney, a public defender or legal aid.
