Minnesota good time and sentence credit rules
For offenses on or after Aug 1, 1993, a Minnesota executed sentence is two-thirds prison and one-third supervised release. There is no classic good time.[1]

Credit types and rates
- The sentence has two parts: a minimum prison term equal to two-thirds of the executed sentence, and a maximum supervised release term equal to one-third.[1]
- Time actually served is subject to §244.05 subd. 1b. Disciplinary confinement can extend prison time.[1]
- The Minnesota Rehabilitation and Reinvestment Act also created earned incentive release. We have not yet verified its rates in statute text, so check with the Minnesota DOC.
Exclusions and limits
- Exceptions under §244.05 subd. 4a (for example, life sentences).[1]

What we could not verify
Earned incentive release rates (MRRA) are not yet verified here.
How to find a release date
- Search the official Minnesota DOC Offender Locator by name or ID number.
- Look for the projected release, parole eligibility, or discharge date. The DOC record already includes credits it has awarded.
- For questions, contact the facility records office. Only DOC can correct a date.

FAQ
What percent of a sentence do you serve in Minnesota?
Usually two-thirds in prison, then one-third on supervised release (§244.101), unless discipline extends it.
Does Minnesota have parole?
Not for sentences under the guidelines (offenses since 1993). People go to supervised release instead.
What this site can't do
| Issue | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Discipline and lost credits | We cannot see write-ups, forfeitures or restored credits. Only the facility record shows them. |
| Detainers and holds | Warrants, immigration holds or other-state detainers can block release. They are not in public data. |
| Consecutive and concurrent sentences | How sentences stack changes every date. We do not recompute aggregated sentences. |
| Parole board discretion | Eligibility is not release. Boards decide, and can deny or defer. |
| Jail credit errors | Pretrial credit is set by the court. Errors must be fixed through the court or records office. |
| Recent law changes | New laws, court rulings and DOC policy changes can take weeks to reach records. |
| Individual legal advice | We explain public rules. A lawyer or the DOC records office can apply them to one case. |
Always confirm dates with the official DOC records office.
