Missouri good time and sentence credit rules

Missouri allows "good time" credit only on the superintendent's recommendation, under a DOC policy. There is no fixed statutory monthly rate.[1]

Sources last checked Oct 16, 2026, 8:23 AM MT. This explains current law. It does not calculate anyone's date.

Credit types and rates

  • Credit may be given on the institutional superintendent's recommendation to people who serve their sentence "in an orderly and peaceable manner" and use rehabilitation programs.[1]
  • The DOC director sets the policy, which is published in the Code of State Regulations.[1]
  • Credit applies only to the sentence currently being served.[1]

Exclusions and limits

  • Not available to people committed under §558.016(7) or §566.125(3).[1]
  • Rule or law violations can cost some or all of the credit.[1]

Parole eligibility vs. discharge

  • Parole eligibility depends on Missouri's minimum prison term rules (such as §558.019) and the Parole Board. Those rules are complex and we have not summarized them here.

What we could not verify

Missouri's actual credit amounts are set by DOC regulation, which we have not yet verified.

How to find a release date

  1. Search the official Missouri DOC Offender Search by name or ID number.
  2. Look for the projected release, parole eligibility, or discharge date. The DOC record already includes credits it has awarded.
  3. For questions, contact the facility records office. Only DOC can correct a date.
