Nebraska prison money & phone fees, compared
What it costs to send money and take calls from NDCS, using only fees NDCS publishes, each with its source and date. Where a fee isn't published, we say so; we never guess.
Sending money
Options NDCS names: ViaPath (approved provider) (opens in new tab)
Official fees and rates
- NDCS names GTL/ViaPath as the provider for money transfers, photos, emails, e-cards and 30-second video grams (video grams start at $0.60). Fees apply, and rejected photos aren't refunded.
Other official notes
- Funds sent by mail go to the facility's own mailing address on NDCS's mail page, with the person's name and ID number. Rules are in NDCS policy 113.02.

Phone calls, video and messages
Options NDCS names: ViaPath (approved provider) (opens in new tab), GettingOut (approved provider) (opens in new tab)
Official fees and rates
Not published on the official NDCS page we read. Vendors show their fee before you pay; check it there.
Other official notes
- Families can't call in. The person submits your number for their approved phone list, and once it's approved they call you from the housing-unit phone. Calls are recorded and monitored.
- Tablets allow messages and video through GettingOut. For phone or email problems, NDCS says to contact ViaPath customer service at 877-650-4249.

Ways to keep costs down
- If NDCS lists a free option (often a mailed money order), it says so above.
- Fees often step up with the amount; a vendor's checkout screen shows the exact fee before you pay.
- Compare states: all states side by side.
