Visit-day checklist: Wyoming prisons
What to wear, which ID to bring and what you can carry in, from WDOC's official rules. Pick a prison to add its address, phone and hours. Print it or keep it on your phone.
Before visit day
- ☐ The incarcerated person starts the process by mailing you the Visitor Application (WDOC Form 531) and visiting rules. Complete it and return it to their facility. Children need a Letter of Custodial Consent (Form 532). (official source) (opens in new tab)
- ☐ Every applicant gets an NCIC background check. Visitors may only visit one person in WDOC unless the warden approves. (official source) (opens in new tab)
- ☐ Check for lockdowns or cancelled visits: Wyoming facility status.
What to wear
- ☐ All Visitors must be approved, and proper attire is required. (official source) (opens in new tab)
ID to bring
- WDOC's ID rule isn't on the official pages we could read. Check the official visiting page (opens in new tab) or call the prison before you go.
What you can bring, what stays in the car
- WDOC's list of allowed and banned items isn't on the official pages we could read. Check the official visiting page (opens in new tab) or call the prison before you go.
More from WDOC on visiting
- ☐ Each facility posts its own schedule on WDOC's visitation page. For example, the Wyoming Women's Center has morning and afternoon visits Saturday through Monday; arrive by 7:15 AM or 11:45 AM. (official source) (opens in new tab)
- ☐ Proper attire is required, and breaking the rules can end a visit early. The Wyoming State Penitentiary has posted updated in-person visiting information that takes effect Nov. 10, 2026. (official source) (opens in new tab)
Rules can differ by prison and change without notice; the prison's posted rules win. Quoted or summarized from official WDOC pages, each linked. Not legal advice. No sponsors or affiliate links. Last checked .
