Wisconsin state prisons: visiting, mail, money and status
35 Wisconsin DOC prisons from the official Wisconsin DOC facility list, checked 2026-10-20.
Wisconsin DOC Offender Locator (official) (opens in new tab) Wisconsin facility status
How to search: enter the person's legal last and first name, or their Wisconsin DOC ID number if you have it. Nicknames and misspellings usually return nothing; try fewer letters or a different spelling of the name. Use it to confirm the person's name as DOC lists it, their DOC number and current facility. Mail and deposits need the DOC number. People in county jails or not yet at intake won't show up.
What the dates mean: any dates shown, such as admission, sentence or projected release dates, come from Wisconsin DOC's own records. Projected dates can change (for example with earned credits, discipline or parole decisions) and are not a guarantee. Ask Wisconsin DOC or the facility before making plans around a date.
OutSooner does not store or list anyone's name, date of birth or ID number. The search runs on the official site.
How to get release and transfer alerts
Wisconsin DOC Notis (official) (opens in new tab)
- Wisconsin prisons use DOC Notis, a free online service. WI VINE covers county jails. Enroll with the DOC Office of Victim Services and Programs (OVSP).
- Enrolled victims, survivors and witnesses choose which notices they get about people in prison, on community supervision or on the sex offender registry.
Victim services contact: OVSP, 1-800-947-5777 or (608) 240-5888, docovspadmin@wisconsin.gov
These alerts are built mainly for crime victims. OutSooner does not sign anyone up or store any names. Source: Wisconsin DOC (official) (opens in new tab) · Last checked

In-person visiting
- Each facility posts its own visiting hours and how to schedule on its DOC webpage. Schedule in-person visits at least two business days ahead by calling or emailing the facility.
- Visitors 16 and older need photo ID. Arrive no more than 15 minutes early. You may bring up to $20; no items for the person in custody.
- Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility visits are by video only.

Becoming an approved visitor
- Every visitor, including children, must be on the person's approved visitor list. The person in custody mails you a DOC-21AA Visitor Questionnaire; fill it out and mail it back to the institution.
- Visitors under 18 must come with an adult who is on the approved list.
