WV DCR offender search (official) (opens in new tab) West Virginia facility status
How to search: enter the person's legal last and first name, or their WV DCR ID number if you have it. Nicknames and misspellings usually return nothing; try fewer letters or a different spelling of the name. You need the person's OID number for mail and deposits. Most WV prisons are combined "correctional center and jail" facilities.
What the dates mean: any dates shown, such as admission, sentence or projected release dates, come from WV DCR's own records. Projected dates can change (for example with earned credits, discipline or parole decisions) and are not a guarantee. Ask WV DCR or the facility before making plans around a date.
Release and transfer alerts: West Virginia takes part in VINE (official source (opens in new tab)). Families can sign up free on VINELink (opens in new tab) for release, transfer and court-date alerts. It's built mainly for crime victims.
OutSooner does not store or list anyone's name, date of birth or ID number. The search runs on the official site.

In-person visiting
- Visiting days, hours and rules differ by facility and are listed on each facility's DCR page. Many regional jail and correctional facilities allow one 30-minute non-contact visit per month.
- Dress codes are strictly enforced (for example sleeves required, no open-toed shoes, no orange clothing at some facilities). Late arrivals may lose the visit.

Becoming an approved visitor
- At regional facilities the incarcerated person requests the visit and must list every visitor by name; anyone not listed can't visit.
- Children need a notarized Juvenile Visitation Form from the parent or guardian, notarized outside the facility, plus a birth certificate. Check the facility's own rules.
