South Dakota prison money & phone fees, compared
What it costs to send money and take calls from SD DOC, using only fees SD DOC publishes, each with its source and date. Where a fee isn't published, we say so; we never guess.

Official fees and rates
Not published on the official SD DOC page we read. Vendors show their fee before you pay; check it there.
Other official notes
- Only approved visitors can send money. Online deposits go through JailATM (support 1-877-810-0914), usually available within two days; your JailATM name and date of birth must match the approved visitor list exactly. Fees apply.
- By mail: U.S. money orders or cashier's checks payable to the person, with their first and last name and DOC ID and your name and address, sent to the facility. No cash or personal checks.

Other official notes
- People can't receive incoming calls. They request to add your number to their approved phone list; it must be a contract or prepaid number, not VoIP. You can add phone or tablet funds through Connect Network (1-877-650-4249).
- Some facilities have tablet messaging through GettingOut with approved contacts only. Messages are reviewed and can't include photos. Fees apply.

Ways to keep costs down
- If SD DOC lists a free option (often a mailed money order), it says so above.
- Fees often step up with the amount; a vendor's checkout screen shows the exact fee before you pay.
- Compare states: all states side by side.
OutSooner has no sponsors or affiliate links; vendors are named only because SD DOC names them. Not financial or legal advice.
