South Dakota state prisons: visiting, mail, money and status

8 SD DOC prisons from the official SD DOC facility list, checked 2026-10-20.

SD DOC adult offender lookup (official) (opens in new tab) South Dakota facility status

How to search: enter the person's legal last and first name, or their SD DOC ID number if you have it. Nicknames and misspellings usually return nothing; try fewer letters or a different spelling of the name. You need the person's DOC ID number for mail and deposits.

What the dates mean: any dates shown, such as admission, sentence or projected release dates, come from SD DOC's own records. Projected dates can change (for example with earned credits, discipline or parole decisions) and are not a guarantee. Ask SD DOC or the facility before making plans around a date.

OutSooner does not store or list anyone's name, date of birth or ID number. The search runs on the official site.

How to get release and transfer alerts

SD SAVIN (official) (opens in new tab)

  • South Dakota uses SAVIN, run by the Attorney General's Office, not VINE. It's free and available 24/7.
  • Register at savin.sd.gov for alerts about changes like release. You must register with SAVIN even if you signed up for victim notification before. Registrations are confidential.
