Maryland prison money & phone fees, compared

What it costs to send money and take calls from DPSCS (Maryland), using only fees DPSCS (Maryland) publishes, each with its source and date. Where a fee isn't published, we say so; we never guess.

Sending money

Options DPSCS (Maryland) names: Access Corrections (approved provider) (opens in new tab)

Official fees and rates

  • Online and phone deposits go through Access Corrections, DPSCS's approved provider: online from $2.95 or by phone at 1-866-345-1884 from $3.95, using Visa or MasterCard.
  • Lockbox deposits usually post in 2 to 7 business days. Money orders of $250 or more are held 30 days, and deposited money orders can't be refunded.
Other official notes
  • Money orders go to the DPSCS Lockbox, P.O. Box 17111, Baltimore, MD 21297-0382, payable to the person with their name, facility and SID number, plus your name and address. Don't put letters or cards in with them.

Phone calls, video and messages

Options DPSCS (Maryland) names: ConnectNetwork (approved provider) (opens in new tab)

Official fees and rates

Not published on the official DPSCS (Maryland) page we read. Vendors show their fee before you pay; check it there.

Other official notes
  • Phone accounts are run by ConnectNetwork (ViaPath), not DPSCS. Questions go to ConnectNetwork at 877-650-4249.
  • An AdvancePay prepaid account lets the person call your number using money you deposit. You can also deposit into the person's own PIN Debit phone account so they can call approved numbers.

Ways to keep costs down

  • If DPSCS (Maryland) lists a free option (often a mailed money order), it says so above.
  • Fees often step up with the amount; a vendor's checkout screen shows the exact fee before you pay.
  • Compare states: all states side by side.
