Maine state prisons: visiting, mail, money and status
6 Maine DOC prisons from the official Maine DOC facility list, checked 2026-10-20.
Maine Adult Resident Search (official) (opens in new tab) Maine facility status
How to search: enter the person's legal last and first name, or their Maine DOC ID number if you have it. Nicknames and misspellings usually return nothing; try fewer letters or a different spelling of the name. Maine's official search covers adults in MDOC custody, including those housed in county jails, other states or federal facilities. It doesn't include youth.
What the dates mean: any dates shown, such as admission, sentence or projected release dates, come from Maine DOC's own records. Projected dates can change (for example with earned credits, discipline or parole decisions) and are not a guarantee. Ask Maine DOC or the facility before making plans around a date.
OutSooner does not store or list anyone's name, date of birth or ID number. The search runs on the official site.
How to get release and transfer alerts
Maine DOC Request for Notification of Release (official) (opens in new tab)
- Maine DOC runs its own notification, not VINE. Victims must file a request with the prosecuting attorney's office; you can also submit the request form online on the DOC page.
- It covers victims of murder, Class A, B or C crimes and some Class D crimes. You're notified before work release, furlough or release. Requests are confidential.
Victim services contact: DOC Director of Victim Services, (800) 968-6909 or (207) 287-4385
These alerts are built mainly for crime victims. OutSooner does not sign anyone up or store any names. Source: Maine DOC (official) (opens in new tab) · Last checked

Phone calls and video visits
- Maine's official deposit service lets you add money to a resident's phone account. Ask the facility which calling options apply.
- We couldn't confirm the current phone vendor on a current official MDOC page, so we don't name one here.

In-person visiting
- Each facility posts its own schedule on its Mail & Visitation page. At Maine State Prison, visits are Thursday to Sunday, 8:30–10:30 a.m. and 1:30–3:30 p.m.
- At Maine State Prison, book at least two business days ahead by phone at (207) 273-5526 (Mon–Wed, 8 a.m.–2:30 p.m.) or email Visit.MSP@maine.gov.

Becoming an approved visitor
- Fill out the Adult Facility Visitor Application, sign every page and mail it to the facility. Clearance can take up to six weeks, longer with a record.
- Except immediate family, you can be on only one resident's list. Immediate family may get non-contact visits before contact clearance. Falsifying an application means a six-month wait to reapply.
