Louisiana prison money & phone fees, compared

What it costs to send money and take calls from LA DPS&C, using only fees LA DPS&C publishes, each with its source and date. Where a fee isn't published, we say so; we never guess.

Sending money

Options LA DPS&C names: JPay (approved provider) (opens in new tab)

Official fees and rates

  • Money orders by mail have no charge. Send them with a JPay deposit slip to JPay in Miami, Florida (DPS&C lists P.O. Box 531370, Miami Shores, FL 33153); allow extra mailing time.
Other official notes
  • All state prisons use the state's approved provider, which DPS&C lists as JPay: by mail, online or app, phone (1-800-574-5729), lobby kiosks, or MoneyGram walk-up locations.
  • DPS&C warns: Cash App, Venmo, PayPal and Chime are not approved ways to send money.
  • Don't hand money to anyone during a visit.

Ways to keep costs down

  • If LA DPS&C lists a free option (often a mailed money order), it says so above.
  • Fees often step up with the amount; a vendor's checkout screen shows the exact fee before you pay.
  • Compare states: all states side by side.
