Louisiana state prisons: visiting, mail, money and status
8 LA DPS&C prisons from the official LA DPS&C facility list, checked 2026-10-20.
Louisiana VINELink (official locator linked by DPS&C) (official) (opens in new tab) Louisiana facility status
This guide covers the eight state-run prisons. Many people in DPS&C custody are housed in parish jails or transitional work programs, which DPS&C also lists on its locations page.
How to search: enter the person's legal last and first name, or their LA DPS&C ID number if you have it. Nicknames and misspellings usually return nothing; try fewer letters or a different spelling of the name.
What the dates mean: any dates shown, such as admission, sentence or projected release dates, come from LA DPS&C's own records. Projected dates can change (for example with earned credits, discipline or parole decisions) and are not a guarantee. Ask LA DPS&C or the facility before making plans around a date.
Release and transfer alerts: Louisiana takes part in VINE (official source (opens in new tab)). Families can sign up free on VINELink (opens in new tab) for release, transfer and court-date alerts. It's built mainly for crime victims.
OutSooner does not store or list anyone's name, date of birth or ID number. The search runs on the official site.

- Visitors are screened, including criminal history.
- Don't call the facility to ask if you are approved; ask the person. DPS&C does not publish a typical approval wait time.
