Kentucky state prisons: visiting, mail, money and status

14 Kentucky DOC prisons from the official Kentucky DOC facility list, checked 2026-10-20.

Kentucky Offender Online Lookup (KOOL) (official) (opens in new tab) Kentucky facility status

How to search: enter the person's legal last and first name, or their Kentucky DOC ID number if you have it. Nicknames and misspellings usually return nothing; try fewer letters or a different spelling of the name. KOOL is Kentucky DOC's official lookup. Each facility's "General Inmate Information" page has its emergency number.

What the dates mean: any dates shown, such as admission, sentence or projected release dates, come from Kentucky DOC's own records. Projected dates can change (for example with earned credits, discipline or parole decisions) and are not a guarantee. Ask Kentucky DOC or the facility before making plans around a date.

Release and transfer alerts: Kentucky takes part in VINE (official source (opens in new tab)). Families can sign up free on VINELink (opens in new tab) for release, transfer and court-date alerts. It's built mainly for crime victims.

OutSooner does not store or list anyone's name, date of birth or ID number. The search runs on the official site.

Phone calls and video visits

  • Video visits go through Securus. Create an account, wait for approval, then schedule. They don't count against in-person visits.

In-person visiting

  • Each facility sets its own schedule; many require appointments. For example, Blackburn visits are weekends and state holidays by appointment, booked a week ahead.
  • Bring photo ID. No cash, purses or phones in the visiting room; vending is cashless. Dress code is strict (shoulders covered, no shorts more than 2 inches above the knee, no hats).

Becoming an approved visitor

  • The incarcerated person sends you a Visiting Information Form. Fill it out completely and mail it to the warden. You can't visit until you're on the approved list.
  • Lists cover immediate family plus 3 other adults and 1 clergy, and can change twice a year. Except immediate family, you can be on only one person's list.
