Visit-day checklist: Idaho prisons

What to wear, which ID to bring and what you can carry in, from IDOC (Idaho)'s official rules. Pick a prison to add its address, phone and hours. Print it or keep it on your phone.

Before visit day

  • ☐ Every visitor must pass a background check and complete IDOC's online visiting application, after reading the Visiting Rules. Wait until the person is classified so you know their facility. (official source) (opens in new tab)
  • ☐ Minors need the minor application, a certified birth certificate, and proof of guardianship or power of attorney if applicable. Approval normally takes two to four weeks, and the person in prison tells you the result. (official source) (opens in new tab)
  • ☐ Check for lockdowns or cancelled visits: Idaho facility status.

More from IDOC (Idaho) on visiting

  • ☐ No visits during reception and diagnostics. Each facility posts its own visiting hours, which can change for weather or emergencies; check IDOC's Visitation/Facility Alerts before you go. (official source) (opens in new tab)
  • ☐ No paper money in visiting rooms; bring coins in a clear plastic bag or a card for vending machines. Bringing in contraband is a crime under Idaho Code 18-2510. (official source) (opens in new tab)
