District of Columbia prison money & phone fees, compared
What it costs to send money and take calls from DC DOC, using only fees DC DOC publishes, each with its source and date. Where a fee isn't published, we say so; we never guess.
Sending money
Official fees and rates
- Send money through Western Union (online fees from $3.95; phone and walk-in from $5.95). For phone or walk-in, use Pay To: DCDOC, Code City: DCGOV, State: DC, plus the DCDC number and last name.
Other official notes
- You can also mail a money order (never cash), use OffenderConnect online, or use the kiosk in the CTF lobby or the Video Visitation Center.

Phone calls, video and messages
Official fees and rates
Not published on the official DC DOC page we read. Vendors show their fee before you pay; check it there.
Other official notes
- People get a personal call at intake, then use housing-unit phones. Families can add money to a prepaid phone account through OffenderConnect or the visiting-center kiosk.
- DC DOC's pages don't name a phone vendor clearly, so we don't name one here.

Ways to keep costs down
- If DC DOC lists a free option (often a mailed money order), it says so above.
- Fees often step up with the amount; a vendor's checkout screen shows the exact fee before you pay.
- Compare states: all states side by side.
OutSooner has no sponsors or affiliate links; vendors are named only because DC DOC names them. Not financial or legal advice.
