Massachusetts: calls from state prisons are free

Massachusetts DOC says calls from the standard wall phones have been free since Dec. 1, 2023, with no cap on the number of calls.

The Massachusetts Department of Correction made calls from the standard facility wall phones free on December 1, 2023, following state law. Before that, either the incarcerated person or the person receiving the call paid. There's no cap on the number of calls.

Families don't need to fund a phone account for these calls. The incarcerated person keeps their own list of approved numbers. Email through Corrlinks still costs $0.25 per message, according to mass.gov.
