Tick what you plan to send and see NYS DOCCS's official rules for it before it gets rejected. Pick a prison for its mailing address.
All official mail rules we have for New York
- Write the person's name and DIN on every envelope, with your return address in the top left. (official source) (opens in new tab)
- Envelopes may include letters and photos. Do not send nude or Polaroid photos, postage stamps, or letters from other people (except children). (official source) (opens in new tab)
- Use the facility address. Some facilities list a separate mailing address for incarcerated people, shown on the facility page. (official source) (opens in new tab)
- A limit of five pages of printed or photocopied materials may be received within a piece of regular correspondence. (official source) (opens in new tab)
- To facilitate media review, do not tape, glue or paste clipping or pages together or to other pages. (official source) (opens in new tab)
- Packages will no longer be allowed to be brought to the facility during visits or mailed directly to the facility from family or friends. (official source) (opens in new tab)
Write the person's name and ID number only on the envelope; this page never asks for them. Rules change and can differ by prison; the prison's posted rules win. Not legal advice. No sponsors or affiliate links. Last checked .
