All official mail rules we have for Federal (BOP)
Address letters to the person's full committed name and 8-digit register number at the facility's inmate mail address (below). Never send money to the facility address. (official source) (opens in new tab)
No packages from home without prior written approval; release clothing and approved medical devices only. Books and magazines must come straight from the publisher. (official source) (opens in new tab)
Write the person's name and ID number only on the envelope; this page never asks for them. Rules change and can differ by prison; the prison's posted rules win. Not legal advice. No sponsors or affiliate links. Last checked .
